Matthieu Idmtal s’est imposé sur les scènes nationales et internationales.
En effet, tant le public que la presse, ont fait l’éloge de sa personnalité marquante ainsi que de ses interprétations brillantes et sensibles.
Ces dernières années, il a été invité à jouer sur les principales scènes belges telles que Bozar, Flagey, De Handelsbeurs, De Singel, Philharmonie de Liège,… et s’est produit dans des festivals internationaux tels que le Klarafestival, Festival Musiq’3, Les Sommets du Classique (Suisse), Rencontres Musicales en Côte Châlonnaise (France), Les sommets musicaux de Gstaad (Suisse), Festival Musical d’Arcangues (France),…
Depuis des années, il se distingue de plus en plus comme l’un des interprètes incontournables de Scriabine. Très souvent applaudi pour ses interprétations créatives et très personnelles, il a donné plusieurs récitals entièrement consacrés à ce compositeur, et a également joué à plusieurs reprises pour la European Scriabin Society.
En septembre 2018, le premier CD solo de Matthieu Idmtal était entièrement consacré au compositeur russe, et son interprétation toute empreinte d’émotions et de poésie a été récompensée par une critique « cinq étoiles » de Radio Klara et du magazine Classica. ainsi que par bon nombre d’autres critiques, plus élogieuses les unes que les autres : “Dit is beslist één van de betere Scriabin albums van de laatste tien jaar.” (De Nieuwe Muze) en “Zijn spel bevat een gevarieerd en kleurrijk toucher, soepele fraseringen, een natuurlijk rubato, en een aanstekelijke verbeelding. A ce jour, Matthieu Idmtal s’est produit en récital ou en soliste avec orchestre, tant en Belgique qu’en Italie, aux Pays-Bas, en France, en Grande-Bretagne, en Suisse et en Espagne.
Il est également très sollicité comme partenaire de musique de chambre. Depuis des années, il forme un duo avec la pianiste Anastasia Kozhushko. Le duo a remporté plusieurs prix de concours en Belgique (Youth ‘n Classic – 1er prix), en Italie (International F. Schubert Competition ‘San Cristofori’ – 2ème prix), ou aux Pays-Bas (Internationaal Kamermuziekconcours Almere – Prix Public).
Depuis plusieurs années, il est également le partenaire de la violoniste Maya Levy.
Le duo Levy-Idmtal s’est produit dans toute l’Europe, et a été nommé ‘Supernova’ qui est un prix de musique de chambre attribué par la presse et les programmateurs belges. Cette victoire leur ont valu de pouvoir se produire dans la Belgique entière.
La même année, le duo enregistre leur premier CD consacré à l’intégrale des sonates pour violon et piano d’Edvard Grieg.
Le CD reçut les éloges des critiques internationaux et est nommé ‘Klara’s top 10’ par Radio Klara.
Le répertoire de Matthieu Idmtal s’étend du baroque à la musique contemporaine. Néanmoins, il porte une affection particulière à la musique romantique et post-romantique, avec F. Chopin et A. Scriabin comme compositeurs principaux.
L’affinité qu’il ressent vis-à-vis de Chopin, l’encouragera à créer les « Brussels Chopin Days » : une série de concerts internationaux, entièrement dédiés à Frédéric Chopin, et dont Matthieu Idmtal est Directeur artistique depuis 2013.
Toutefois, il porte également beaucoup d’intérêt aux œuvres moins connues. C’est ainsi que seul, et en duo, il a donné plusieurs « premières » d’œuvres nouvelles.
Matthieu a participé avec succès à plusieurs concours internationaux et est lauréat de plus d’une quinzaine d’entre-eux.
Il entame sa formation musicale avec Frima Nakimovitch, et au fil des années, il a la chance de s’enrichir des conseils de Maria Andreeva, Geoffrey Madge, Leonid Margarius, Mikhail Markov, Itamar Golan, Hakon Austbo, Leonidas Kavakos, Boris Kuschnir,…
Mais c’est de Vitaly Samoshko, que Matthieu considère comme son mentor, qu’il reçoit la plus grande partie de sa formation.

It is clear that Matthieu Idmtal has become an established name on national and international stages. Press and public have witnessed his distinctive musical personality, and have praised his highly sensitive interpretations.
As a prize winner of more than 15 international competitions, Matthieu Idmtal has been a guest at the main Belgian stages such as Bozar, Flagey, Handelsbeurs, De Bijloke, De Singel, Philharmonie de Liège,… and made part of international festivals such as the Klara Festival, Festival Musiq’3, Les Sommets du Classique (Switzerland), Musicales and Côte Chalonnaise (France), Les Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad (Switzerland), Gentse Vleugels, Festival Musical d’Arcangues (France), Podium Jonge Musici, Brussels Chopin Days,…
In recent years, Matthieu Idmtal has established himself as a leading interpreter of the music of Alexander Scriabin, and gave several recitals entirely dedicated to the Russian composer.
He often performed for the European Scriabin Society, and was praised for his emotional intensity and deeply poetic and personal interpretations. In September 2018 his first solo-CD appeared containing two major piano cycles of Alexander Scriabin, and very quickly received high critical acclaim such as: ‘This is definitely one of the better Scriabin CD’s of the last ten years’ (De Muze) or, ‘In a sublime way, he joins the beauty of sound with expression. His playing contains a variated and colourful toucher, supple phrasing, a natural rubato, pricesly elaborated dynamics, and a contagious imagination. Idmtal is a poet at the piano.’ (Magazine Stretto). The CD received a five star review by the National Belgian radio station, Radio Klara.
Last seasons, Idmtal gave solo recitals and concerts with orchestra in Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Switzerland and Spain. In addition to his solo concerts, he is a sought-after partner to play chamber music; it has been ten years since he forms a very successful piano duo with pianist Anastasia Kozhushko. The pianoduo won several international prizes such as the ‘Youth ‘n Classic Prize’ (Belgium), ‘Concorso Internationale San Cristoforo’ (Italy), or the press- and publicprize at the International ‘Chamber Music Competition Almere’ (Netherlands). Over the passed five years, Matthieu Idmtal has been working on an intense and regular base with violinist Maya Levy. The duo Levy-Idmtal gave concerts thoughout the whole of Europe, and are considered as one of the rising stars of this young generation. In 2017, they were awarded as ‘Supernova’, a prize given by the Belgian music critics, programmors, and classical music radio stations. The award would offer a concert tour through the whole country.
In the end of 2016, they recorded their first CD containing the complete violin sonatas of E. Grieg, which received unanimous positive reactions in the press.
The repertoire of Matthieu Idmtal ranges from the baroque period till music of nowadays, but he has always had a particular attention to (Post-) Romantic music, with Frédéric Chopin and Alexander Scriabin as main composers. His affinity with the former made him create the Brussels Chopin Days: an international concert series dedicated to F. Chopin, of which Matthieu Idmtal is the artistic director since 2013. He also makes a point of bringing lesser known works into the spotlights. Performances of his pianoduo were selected for the compilation CD of the Klarafestival, and they often gave premières of new or unknown works. Furthermore, he is invited to be jurymember in several competitions, and will record a second CD with Maya Levy.
Matthieu began his musical training at the age of 7 with Frima Nakimovitch, and at the age of 10 he gave his first concert. After a few years he continued his studies with Maria Andreeva. The bulk of his training he worked with Vitaly Samoshko which he regards as his most significant teacher.
From 2014 to 2015 Matthieu made part of the Young Master Pianists, an organization based in Amsterdam, which selectively chosen pianists under the musical and artistic guidance of Geoffrey Madge.
Over the years, Matthieu has shared the stage with musicians such as Pierre-Alain Volondat, Alexander Moguilevsky, Bomsori Kim, Dirk Brossé, Vitaly Samoshko,… and is thankful for the musical advice he was able to receive from artists such as Leonid Margarius, Sergei Leschenko, Leonidas Kavakos, Håkon Austbø, Renaud Capuçon, Mikhael Markov, Ralph van Raat, Boris Kushnir, Pavel Vernikov, Paul Biss,…
